Sahara Harissa Hot Sauce

Harissa originated in the 16th-century Southern Mediterranean (Tunisia), where newly introduced chili peppers from the Americas were combined with garlic, spices, and olive oil to form an early chili paste.

The name derives from the Arabic word "harasa," meaning "to crush, pound, or mash," which reflects the traditional preparation method of harissa: dried chili peppers are pounded with spices to produce a thick paste.

As one of the oldest documented chili sauces in the Mediterranean, harissa has become a bold staple of Southern Mediterranean cuisine, spreading throughout the region and renowned for its rich flavor and spiciness. Our version pays homage to that historic tradition.
